Our Process

Making great wine from around the world is easy, fun and affordable!

1. Choose your favourite wine variety

Your winemaking experience begins with choosing the type and quality level of wine you want to make.

Wine varieties can vary from light, refreshing, fruit flavoured wines for easy sipping on a hot day to vineyard specific products from many of the great wine regions of the world. You can create great tasting whites such as Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling; reds such as Merlot, Shiraz, and Amarone and even specialty products like icewine style, port, and sherry.

The ingredients for your wine are available in three basic formats that are defined by the length of time it takes to make them.
  • Four week wines are good quality table wines you can enjoy any time.
  • Six week wines introduce more body and flavour that can, after some aging, provide enhanced varietal characteristics.
  • Premium wines are made with vineyard and or region specific juice from Australia, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc. Many producers offer Limited Edition wines.
Whatever your personal preference, Valley Wines can assist in helping select the wine most suited to your taste.

2. Starting Your Wine

Next we mix the contents into a large primary fermentation vessel. You start the fermentation process by sprinkling yeast into the ingredients. This only takes 5-10 minutes.

3. Processing Your Wine

We at Valley Wines are both trained and equipped to take care of your wine until it is finished. We will handle all intermediate processing steps such as stabilizing, clarifying and filtering to get it ready for bottling.

4. Bottling Your Wine

After 4, 6 or 7 weeks you will return to bottle and cork your wine. Table wines make about 30 x 750 ml bottles. This process can usually be completed in 30-40 minutes. You may either recycle bottles from your last wine or purchase new ones available at Valley Wines.

5. Presentation

Labels and coordinated shrink capsules are available and give your wine a finished appearance. You can even personalize the labels for everyday appeal and for specific occasions and events.

6. Aging

Aging is important for some wines to bring out the best flavour and aromas. We will gladly provide advice on aging as well as proper storage procedures.

7. Enjoying

Whether on a hot summer's afternoon, a special dinner or sitting by the fireplace after a long days work, now you can sit back, sip, and appreciate your choice.

CHEERS!

Our store is licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. The products available today from our winemaking store allows consumers to make wines from all over the world at considerable savings. Your wine is made from the same types of grape juice commercial wineries use, with all components provided in proper proportions.

The savings come from three sources
  1. Tax savings as a result of the work you do
  2. The absence of retail store mark-ups
  3. You store and age your wine instead of the winery
The reward is wine that you can be proud to serve to your friends and that can be enjoyed over the years.
